Today’s news has it that Tina Fey is leaving Saturday Night Live. Now she doesn’t have a clue who I am, but her name was buzzing in the halls of The Second City when I worked there in 1998-99. Here’s why she’d become the ‘icon’ for the writers and comedians,
Second City veteran Tina Fey became the first female head writer in the
history of "Saturday Night Live" in 1999, only two years after joining
the staff of the famed NBC sketch comedy series.
That was their dream, as they made ends meet waitressing or bagging groceries in their second jobs and she was then the latest in the long line of Second City alumni to make it big.
Me? I was the bottle washer, not even chief cook 🙂 I worked for a tiny little division called Second City Communications which did live events at tradeshows and corporate events which mostly consisted of running around Las Vegas during Comdex and CES making sure the client was happy.
