I have seen Nagasaki

Today, during a very long conversation, at one point I was ready to say, "I have seen Nagasaki. I have seen a soldier’s skull fused to the inside of his helmet, donated to the Peace Museum, by his grieving mother."

But, I didn’t say it out loud, for there was no need, but I thought to blog it anyway. Twenty one years ago I went to Japan with my mother. One of the cities our tour stopped at was Nagasaki. I had been very insistent on that when mom and I were choosing holiday tours at the travel agents. That we had to go to either Hiroshima or Nagasaki so that I could pay my respects to the fallen.

May they rest in peace knowing that they were sacrificed to stop war altogether.
